Telephone number 0845 602 1111 08456 021 111 08456021111
To disable text messages to your landline (why, really, would someone class that as useful?) you need to telephone
0800 587 5252 (freephone)
Press 1 (change curfew times)
Press 5 (stop receiving text messages)
Hang up when you get disconnected (after a short message)
It will take up to 20 minutes to activate but it does work.
Text my mobile, I don’t read them either but at least I don’t have to cross the room to pick up the telephone for something I can’t hear anyway.

I am glad that my site has helped to resolve your issue. It is a major problem that companies outsource their sales calls to other countries that seem to have no idea of the time over here so the phone goes at stupid o’clock.

Thank you so much. I am getting so fed up with these phone calls. It comes up on our phone as Out of Area. My family live abroad so I am more inclined to answer this phone. Last night at 10:38 we get a phon call. It can only mean one thing when youe elderly granddad is ill. So I run down the stairs and it one of those blasted calls. I am up at 4:30 am everyday. We feel imprisoned with these callsand afraid to answer our phone. I have completely disabled them. Thank you so much kind stranger for your help.x

Hi Greg
My wife and son have just suffered from one of the worse text experiences you could imagine.
Simutaneously both my wife and son were bombarded with multiple texts on their mobile phones… My wife received 5 and my son 9 all at once and all with the same disgusting message, It read `EMERGENCY, HELP ME!` this message appeared to both my wife and son to have come from my mobile phone!
Both of them panicked thinking i was in some sort of trouble, Meanwhile i was answering the house phone (Virginmedia (formerly NTL) and not BT!) to a message apparently from a BT text messaging service, the message i heard was exactly the same message as my wife and son received.
Just as i was listening for the number after hitting 1471 my wife came screeching to a stop on the drive and racing in the house shouting`are you alright Chris?`
This is an absolutely disgusting thing, whoever or whatever is behind this is ridiculous to say the least, this could have had serious consequenses.
After calming my wife down we tried to find out where this audio text message had come from and found the number 0845 6021111, albeit listening to the message itself it gave out my mobile number!
Greg any idea how this has happened my friend?
Do you think it is actually somebody playing what they think is a practical joke?
I just can`t believe how anybody could do this sort of thing!
Greg do you know how my wife and son can stop this thing happening again on their mobile phones (both on different networks)?
I am going to try the number above you provided albeit we are not BT so we will see if this works and hopefully let you know how things work out.
Thanks very much for listening and for any help you can profer…
All the very best
Chris

This is a terrible and despicable act, but it is doubtlessly some idiot’s idea of fun.
I would contact the police if I was you, this is something that I personally would class as borderline harassment and they could track down the person behind it in a few moments.
Best wishes
Greg

I’ve just had two similar ‘text calls’, claiming to be from a mobile number I don’t recognise, saying the exact same thing. What’s going on?

Thankyou for all this info…
Ive been receiving lots of threatening messages from a family member on my virgin-media landline through the bt service and its no joke…i feel threatened!
Im about to dis-able this service, thanks to your info…but i want to know if i can get these messages printed off as i’d like to see and read the contents as i may be forced to show the police..(as a last resort).
Any advice greatly apreciated :)
Many thanks…Bev

Hi Bev
I can’t see a way of doing it, the only thing I could think of is recording the calls as they originate from a specific telephone number and use that.
The police should be able to get the messages and information direct from BT in the course of an investigation if you do take that route.
I hope this helps

Thank you for taking the time to publish this information, it has clearly helped many families including ourselves. We have been bombarded with the 0845602111 number for the last 24hrs, waking our 11 wk old and depriving my wife of her precious little sleep. Hopefully now, thanks to you, it will stop.
It’s a shame one cannot find these individuals and show them, perhaps in a physical way, the error of their ways……………

I know what it is like with children that age, and just how easily they can be woken. They don’t sit there and wait patiently for sunlight – no they go right from silent to scream with nothing in the middle.
I am glad I have helped you and as you note many other people in the same boat.
Enjoy the baby, they get louder the older they get :)

From one ole country boy to another, I am glad I have helped you.
Your kin and mine should meet up by the Birmingham Creek, maybe we can arrange some good old moonshine parties like momma used to throw for those damn yankee soldiers.

Thanks for your sound advice. It worked until recently when one of those horrible spam voiced text messages came through again. Turns out T Mobile and Virgin do not use the BT SMS service, so you have to cancel their service too. And it costs for the privilege. Call 07953966066 Option 2 followed by Option 3. That works; until someone else finds a way to get around it.
Thanks again.

Does anyone know how to stop written text messages to a bt landline

Thanks so much for this what a life saver!! At the beginning of the school holidays and with a sick chhild awake all night I did not appreciate being called every ten minutes from 0830AM from Bt text 0845 602 1111. Why is the default set for everyone to receive text messages they cannot read?? BT logic again I guess. Anyway thanks Greg as all service now turned off and peace restored to the household :) :)

Thank you, this advice is most useful; I have been recieving calls and sms messages to my landline from my chap’s ex, a thoroughly nasty and desperate piece of work. It is in the hands of the police, and I am now in the process of logging each call as malicious so that my provider (talk talk) can block them. In a couple of days, I’ll be contacting the police again and it will go down as harassment, because this monumentally silly woman has already been warned to desist from this (futile)behaviour by the police. Now, thanks to you, dear Greg, I have a way of blocking this silly woman from disturbing my peace- and my chap’s.
Ah, the power of the ‘net!
